Glasses industry is the traditional industry of
Danyang. Our city always has the good fame of ¡° the Hometown of Glasses
in China¡±. In 1985, the Light Industry Department held the
Representative Assembly of China Glasses Association Members in
Zhenjiang (our city is under the jurisdiction of Zhenjiang) for the
first time and established China Glasses Association. The first glasses
research institute in China was set up in Danyang and the first Quality
Inspection Station of provincial level for the inspection of glasses
products was established in Danyang. In 2003, the two institutes passed
the examination of the State Technology Inspection General Bureau and
became one of the only two state-level Quality Inspection Stations in
China for the inspection of glasses products. The products were rewarded
the title of Top-quality Products in the country for many times. There
is domestic largest glasses market in Danyang---Danyang Huayang Glasses
Market which was rewarded the title of National Civilized Market for
many times and its annual sales revenue reaches 500 million Yuan.
Presently, the market is about to invest US$ 20 million in the reform of
the glasses market so as to make it become the place for holding glasses
exhibitions. Now Danyang has become domestic largest lens production
base and possesses over 390 glasses plants which produces 45 million
sets of glasses frames and 70 million sets of lens. The glasses types
have been serialized with optical glasses, resin glasses and contact
lens in low, middle and high grades. 60% of the products are exported to
Japan, South-east Asia, Europe, America and other countries & regions.
In 2002, the sales revenue of glasses in our city reached 1.5 billion
Yuan with US$ 50 million from export. The number of people engaged in
the glasses industry is 30,000 and 60% of the labors in Situ Town are
involved in the manufacturing of glasses. In the 1980s, Zhenjiang
Glasses Factory, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Glasses Factories in
Danyang were very famous all over the world. In the recent several
years, lots of joint ventures and private enterprises have gradually
risen, among which Zhenjiang Wangxin Optical Glasses Co., Ltd has an
annual production capacity of 3.06 million sets of glasses frames and 6
million sets of resin lens. The output of resin lens is at the leading
place in our country and have passed the certificate of American FDA
Standard. In 2002, the sales revenue reached 110 million Yuan; the world
famous glasses company¡ªTaiwan Jinke Glasses Company set up a joint
venture in Situ Town. The name is Jiangsu Oriental Optical Co., Ltd and
the annual output of the company is 5 million sets of metal glasses
frames with sales revenue of 110 million Yuan. Haichang Contact-lens
Company produces 1.8 million sets of contact lens each year with the
brand of ¡°Haichang¡±. Taiwan Baodao Glasses Company invested US$ 8
million in setting up a wholly-owned company manufacturing high-grade
glasses frames with 100% Ti. Its annual output is 300,000 sets of the
frames. Jiangsu Mingyue Opto-electronic Technology Co., Ltd can produce
22,000 sets of PC resin lens daily with progressive& multiple focuses
and seven colors. The company has introduced German LOH lathes and
further improved the product grades. Korean Alpha Optical Company,
Jinshiming Optical Company and other foreign companies all have
investment with 100% share in Danyang, manufacturing strengthened and
film-plated glasses. Jiangsu Nanfang Glasses Company mainly produces two
kinds of middle& high-grade metal glasses frames which are nickel alloy
and Ti alloy with annual output of 400,000 sets. In order to make our
glasses industry larger and more powerful, our city government actively
encourages businessmen from both home and abroad to Danyang for
investment in high-grade glasses frames, lens, film-plated glassed and
other glasses products so as to enlarge the glasses industrial chain of
our city. Through 3-5 years¡¯ efforts, we will build our city into the
domestic largest comprehensive base integrating the development,
manufacturing and marketing of glasses into a whole. |
